MEMENTO MORI ABATTOIR

Memento Mori is a Latin phrase, it serves as a reminder of the inevitability of death and the transient nature of life. Located along the Singapore River, Memento Mori Abattoir draws inspiration from the lost Pulau Saigon Island and its former abattoir. Once a place of slaughter, it now becomes a space that invites visitors to confront mortality—not with fear, but with understanding, curiosity, and even celebration. Memento Mori Abattoir challenges societal taboos surrounding death and creates a space that fosters open conversations. Rather than seeing death as something distant and fearful, this project encourages visitors to embrace it as a reminder to live fully, cherish every moment, and leave behind meaningful legacies.
